Picasso’s Artificial Appetite by Untalan Middle School - Shanelle Navarro
"Snorkelers are seen feeding the fish bread and Vienna Sausage because they are attracted to these processed foods. Some may think that Vienna Sausage is easy for fish to consume because it is soft meat, but it is not nutritious, affects their eating patterns and can cause digestive issues. The Picasso triggerfish is very noticeable in our waters. So that’s why I chose to use plastic bottles to give it a 3-D abstract appearance, since Picasso was a famous abstract painter. I used see-through plastic bread bags to make the Jellyfish tentacles. Marine life is better off hunting for their food which is abundant in coral reefs. Jellyfish also appear here because they are usually found drifting and then washing ashore on the sand.”
Mixed media, plastics washed up from Talofofo Bay, plastic bread bag, pipe cleaners, driftwood, chalk, plastic bottles, grout.
