Always Ours by Kaity Ngeremokt

This painting is a tribute to the resilience of indigenous mothers and their children from across the globe who endure the deep scars of oppression, abuse, and colonization. Through the faces of Congolese, Uyghur Muslims, Russian Siberians, Kanaka Maoli, Sudanese, Maori, West Papuan, Kanaky, Palestinian, Chamorro (Guam) Seminole, and Brazilian indigenous peoples, I aim to capture the shared struggle and enduring strength of those who are often overlooked and marginalized. The inclusion of James Baldwin's poignant words serves as a reminder that the suffering and hope of these children are a collective responsibility, transcending borders and cultures. This piece is not just a visual representation, but a call to acknowledge, protect, and honor the humanity and dignity of every child, everywhere and the land, water and air people all over the world depend on to thrive. That indigenous people all over the world are fighting to protect. Protect the Land, protect the water, protect the air, protect the children, protect Indigenous Rights. Protect the Sacred.
